The RN Clinical Faculty is responsible to provide clinical expertise & educate Nurse residents in the clinical setting/classroom with didactic lectures & clinical simulation at the Fresno VA Medical Center. The RN Clinical Faculty will provide leadership, skill & competency in nursing practice to the Nurse residency program participants. The RN Clinical Faculty demonstrates knowledge, competency & experience in a specialty area of practice as a direct care provider & clinical educator. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Master's Degree in Nursing. (Nursing education must be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time you completed the program). Experience in Academic and/or Hospital education and training Acute Care Experience Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Physical Requirements: Involves considerable amount of standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. Requires carrying or lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs., but occasionally may require work that involves pushing or lifting in excess of 50 pounds and going up and down flights of stairs. The position requires visual and auditory acuity at a level to provide safe and effective nursing care. There are 2 VA nurse residency programs, the Office of Academic Affiliation (OAA) Post Baccalaureate-RN residency program (PB-RNR) and the Office of Nursing Service (ONS) RN Transition to Practice (RNTTP) Program. Both programs are designed to help develop competent, confident, practice-ready RNs equipped with the knowledge and skills to address the specific needs of our nation's Veterans in the VHA and community. The residency programs are designed as a rigorous one year program that includes in-class training, clinical practice experience and research learning. The RN Clinical Faculty will be working closely with the residents to improve their knowledge and skills and will work collaboratively with the PB-RNR and RN-TTP Program Director, service leaderships within the medical center and its affiliating CBOC's in the development and implementation of Nursing and facility-wide educational training programs and initiatives. The RN Clinical Faculty demonstrates organizational, written and oral interpersonal communication skills. This position reports to the PB-RNR and RN-TTP Program Director. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assists in completing preceptor evaluation and communicates progress and challenges with the program director. Provides evidence-based guidance, coaching/mentoring, and feedback in the clinical settings and addressing the individual needs of the PB-RNR residents and RNTTP participants. Develops and provides didactic and simulated training instruction to the nurse residents in a classroom setting. Implements plans to improve in the clinical setting, assessing their knowledge, skills, and attitudes/behaviors. Promotes a positive learning environment with emphasis on patient and staff safety and compliance that meets national accrediting agency standards Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, visitors/family, and all VA staff and trainees) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers constructively and professionally Provides customer with consistent information according to the established policies and procedures Works directly with PB-RNR residents and RNTTP participants in managing patients in the patient care unit to include assessment, identifying patient's needs, formulating, implementing, and evaluating plan of care outcomes. Apply the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/workgroup level to improve care Assess, evaluates, and documents student learning activities and performance Provides timely and constructive feedback to residents regarding clinical performance Provides support and guidance to the PB-RNR residents and RNTTP participants with their evidence-based projects Provides program coverage for the Program Director.
