This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Preferred Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience in patient care. BSN preferred. Med-surg and clinic experience preferred. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Physical Requirements: This position requires: lifting, carrying; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking (8 hours); standing (8 hours); repeated bending; working alone; protracted or irregular hours of work and occasional emotional strain. ["This Registered Nurse (RN) position located in the Geriatric Extended Care (GEC) Clinic at the West Haven campus location. This position is a full-time position 40 hours per week. This RN will support the GEC Clinic, which includes geriatric consult, hospice, palliative care, geriatric surgery, as well as Spinal Cord/ALs clinic. At this time, the clinic is open M-F. The RN of SCI/ALS works in an interdisciplinary team with the social worker, physician, and case worker. Strong clinical background needed. Candidate has to be flexible with schedule. Duties include, but are not limited to: Under the direction of the RN Coordinator provides clinic patients whose care needs include the use of complex techniques, skillful observations, and prompt recognition of changes in condition. In accordance with training and hospital/nursing service policies, the RN initiates life saving measures when necessary. Performs vital sign readings, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, set up oxygen, assigned blood glucose monitoring and performs quality controls on glucometer daily and prn, height, weight, body mass and pulse oximeter. Performs assigned technical procedures such as collecting specimens; expectorated sputum, feces, urine-voided midstream and drainage collection bag. Performs bladder scans, inserts bladder catheter and removes bladder catheter. Reports any critical findings to the team. Knowledgeable of aseptic technique and performs this appropriately. Obtains12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG) and transmits after each EKG. Cleans the equipment according to Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) policy guidelines. Checks recording and highlights any abnormal tracing cause by external action or conditions. Monitors tracing before and after testing and alerts proper medical personnel of serious abnormal test results. Varies test procedures to adjust for patient medical condition. May perform emergency first aid procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation in urgent or emergent situations. Provides basic nursing care to clinic patients, which include: Pushing wheelchair or stretcher to different areas including parking areas. Escorts the patient to the provider's room. Supports and assists patient with moving, lifting or transferring from chair to exam table and assists patients with locomotion. Assists patient in preparation for the examination. Assists/chaperones in female exams. Assists provider with the physical examination as needed.
