The Kansas City VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for the Oncology Nurse Educator position, located in our Learning Organization Service Line. This RN works collaboratively with the Oncology Department and the KCVA's Learning Organization to meet the educational needs of staff. The Oncology Nurse Educator plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates Oncology Education and reports related actions/activities to facility, VISN and national VA leadership. The Oncology Nurse Educator applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/service/facility level to improve care. The Oncology Nurse Educator assesses educational needs and competencies of staff and develops, schedules, coordinates, conducts and evaluates educational programs. The Oncology Nurse Educator provides education and aids staff in planning and developing educational programs to meet their own needs, as well as serving as a resource for complex nursing care standards. As a change agent, promotes an environment that embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements. The role includes leadership in the care of patients; standardization of care; identification, delegation and oversight of care delivery and outcomes. The Oncology Nurse Educator serves as a mentor and consultant to healthcare staff involved in patient care. Provides education that is evidence based. This RN works collaboratively with the Nurse Managers and Chief Nurses to meet the educational needs of nursing staff. As an evidence-based practice resource, this RN assists in establishing, writing, and implementing policy and procedures. The Oncology Educator will incorporate Just Culture and No Harm concepts while promoting the facility's goal to become a High Reliability Organization. Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age related needs of the patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. The Nurse Educator will provide specialized acute care training that includes, but is not limited to, the following aspects of nursing care: Chemotherapy Hazardous Drugs Palliative and Hospice Care Goals of Care Conversations Nursing Ethics The incumbent is involved with provision of effective mechanisms for all nursing staff to actively prepare for, and participate in, accreditation and regulatory review processes and is actively involved in the Joint Commission accreditation compliance processes.
