Special training or interest in CHF is desirable. Cardiac catheterization will not be part of the practice of the selected cardiologist, who will spend the majority of his/her time in the management of CHF patients. The possibility for building a practice that utilizes newer invasive modalities exists. Spacious stress testing labs with new nuclear cameras offer all modalities for the investigation of cardiovascular disease. In addition, the Medical Center houses 2 MRI systems, and 2 multi-slice CT systems to allow development of a robust cardiac imaging program. There is a very active cardiovascular research effort at basic science and clinical/translational levels, as well as a busy teaching service. Significant extramurally funded cardiovascular related research programs are well established within USC-SOM in the areas of cardiovascular development, vascular biology and hypertension, signal transduction, and inflammation. In addition, excellent biomedical instrumentation core facilities, and new laboratory space are available, and development of a fellowship program is in progress.
