The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for ensuring all nursing services are delivered in a manner consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, and ICARE values. In this role, the Chief Nursing Officer will be responsible to plan, direct, monitor, and evaluate the overall operations and activities of all nursing services (i.e., Emergency Room, Med/Surg, Clinic, Outpatient Clinic, Surgery, Home Health Employee Health/Education, Infection Control, Quality, Social Services/Discharge Planning, and Utilization Review) to ensure all established quality and productivity standards are maintained or exceeded.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Provide direction and leadership for all nursing services and operational activities related to patient care; Provide strategic and operational input to transform the delivery of care creating a more consistent patient experience by enhancing clinical integration and care coordination throughout the organization.
Monitor and evaluate quality/improvement processes and workflows related to patient care; provides recommendations to optimize performance/outcomes related to patient care; works with staff and hospital leadership to implement recommended strategies for improvement.
Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all patients; communicate with providers, staff, and hospital leadership to achieve established goals as they relate to patient satisfaction, outcomes, quality, productivity, and financial performance. Works to create an environment that promotes collective responsibility and accountability; removes barriers and fosters collaboration.
Responsible for reviewing patient, physician, and staff complaints/concerns, recommend and implement strategies to resolve as appropriate. Acts as a liaison for nursing services and provides physicians, families, and ancillary departments with direction and/or assistance as needed.
Assist with budget development; leads cost efficient and effective operations, creates plan of correction for any operating expenses that deviate from allowable variances set forth by the hospital.
Responsible for the regular review of the income statement and financial performance for all areas of responsibility; responsible to operate in a fiscally responsible manner via managing expenses and resource allocation. Communicates relevant revenue and expense information to staff members, providers, and hospital leadership.
Ensure all supplies, materials, and equipment inventories are maintained at appropriate levels to meet the demands of patient care, safety, utilization, and financial goals.
Ensure all established policies, procedures, standards of practice, and conduct guidelines are followed in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, and hospital policy.
Approaches others in a tactful manner and treats others with respect and consideration; follows through on commitments; accepts responsibility for personal actions; and adapts to change.
Participates in the selection, orientation, training, development, and evaluation of staff members; monitors staff performance; recognizes staff members for meeting or exceeding performance standards; provides performance coaching and/or counseling as appropriate in accordance with hospital policy.
Regularly rounds with staff members; seeks and provides feedback, addresses all concerns in a timely manner. Works with staff members at all levels to facilitate and champion employee engagement initiatives.
Completes performance reviews for direct reports; recommends and implement plans for improvement as appropriate; utilizes problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with all staff members.
Facilitates nursing leadership meetings and participates on other committees/task forces as assigned; participates in administrator on-call rotation with other members of hospital leadership.
Pursues professional growth and development; performs other duties as assigned
Current, valid licensure to practice in Missouri as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred
Prior experience as a Chief Nursing Officer preferred
Ability to foster a positive team atmosphere through effective interpersonal skills
Able to effectively communicate both verbal and written format
Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information
Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Ability to use multiple electronic systems, software, internet, and computer skills
