Caribbean Healthcare is looking for a Hospitalist Staff Physician who serves as a provider of Internal Medicine care for inpatients at the Medical Step-Down Unit, Rapid Response Team activations, non-teaching Observation Beds Ward and outpatients care at the Emergency Room Fast Tract area and Emergency Room Internal Medicine as consultant, inpatient Internal Medicine consultant. This includes but is not limited to physical examination and treatment, coordination of medical care with other subspecialists, social worker, pharmacist, dietitian, nursing and other personnel as leader of a multidisciplinary team. Coordination also includes operation of quality assurance and utilization programs including peer reviews, open and closed medical record reviews, and utilization reviews. They will also provides comprehensive internal medicine treatments. Maintains an active knowledge of the patient care processes of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the medical center and its clinics. Active knowledge of the medical records system (CPRS). This includes using the computerized medical record system for progress notes, orders, and medical record review and completion of such records in a complete and timely manner. Have knowledge of and abide by Medical Center Bylaws, VHA Rules and Regulations and have a familiarization with existing VA specific clinical guidelines as well as Medical Service rules, regulations and policies. The incumbent fulfills the requirements for employment and credentials as determined by the VA Caribbean Healthcare System. This shall include mandatory and continuing educational requirements and maintaining active licensure in medicine from a state(s) in the US. Demonstrate continuing effort to keep abreast of new medical developments and medical literature. Responsible to complete timely medical license renewal, credentials and board certification remains with the physician. Hospitalist is responsible for the supervision of residents when required. Supervision shall include review of medical records, patient care, treatment, and consultation requests. Ensures that high quality patient care is delivered in a resource efficient manner. Manage patients with Internal Medicine conditions such as but not limited to: Respiratory Insufficiency, Prolonged mechanical ventilation, and all general internal medicine conditions. Maintain OOORAM certification. Perform procedures related to the service such as but not limited to paracentesis, airway management, evaluation of radiologic studies, BCLS/AClS. Participation in educational and scholar activities such as seminars, journal clubs, cancer conferences, grand rounds, treatment planning conferences and dissemination of acquired knowledge through peer reviewed publications. Complies with VHA regulations and professional standards and ethical conduct. Works to ensure that the VA Caribbean Healthcare System programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VHA and VA as well as take an active participatory role as a leadership team member, providing counsel in defining and accomplishing the health system's mission and goals pertinent to their scope of practice. Complies with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, VA Caribbean Healthcare System policies, pertinent Joint Commission standards, and other appropriate regulations as they apply.
