The Chief, Dental Service serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. Provides the administration of the Dental Service in compliance with applicable VHA, VISN, Medical Center and Dental Service Handbooks, Directives, Policies and Procedures. Knowledgeable about agency policies, directives, and procedures. Knowledgeable about regulatory requirements for dental residencies with an emphasis upon Resident Supervision. Capable of responding to Congressional inquiries regarding issues germane to the Dental Service. Ability to comply with accreditation standards, including IG, Joint Commission, and other applicable survey/oversight entities. Knowledge of Safety and Environment of Care (EOC) standards and programs. Ability to run and access available data sources to facilitate management of Dental Service. Responsible for the fiscal oversight of the Dental Service. Develops performance metrics for all provider classification to drive performance and to direct desired behavior. Actively engages in facility Quality Improvement activities including compliance with the credentialing/privileging process. responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, controlling, and refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support/administrative program which provides services and technical counsel necessary to meet clinical, procedural, legal and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients to achieve maximum utilization of patient care resources in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner. Participates in the annual budget estimate for operation of his/her Service. Responsible for developing and implementing a viable, cost-effective organization which manages positions within FTEE and budget. Responsible for personnel actions involving key subordinates and is responsible for effective labor/employee relations by coordinating with Human Resources. Works closely with residents and trainees from The University of Michigan to integrate them into the medical center organization and its patient care programs. Provides coverage for inpatient and outpatient care commensurate with his/her time and area of specialization, providing direct patient care, etc. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm
