This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. The Omaha VA Medical Center is currently a part-time, temporary, Gastroenterologist-Transplant Hepatology. Procedure notes are required to be entered directly into the medical information system. Procedures to be performed include, but are not limited to, the following: Colonoscopy Conscious Sedation Endoscopic Control of Bleeding Esophageal Dilation - Endoscopic Pneumatic Dilators, Malloney Dilators, Etc. Esophageal Varicus Band Ligation Esophageal Varicus Injection Ligation Esophagogastroduodenoscopy with Biopsy Heaer Probe Coagulation The provider may perform additional procedures or manage additional conditions based on specialized training and qualifications. Gastroenterologists are responsible for the evaluation of all new GI consults both inpatient and outpatient, with appropriate responses provided to the consulting party. Diagnosis and treatment within the scope of the Gastroenterological specialty are required. Telephonic contact is required in urgent/emergent situations . Appropriate diagnosis and/or treatment may require contact with colleagues at VA or Non VA facilities. Obtain informed consent for any and all invasive procedures to be performed. Supervise any residents, students, fellows, or teams assigned to their areas of responsibility. Each Gastroenterologist shall engage in furthering the education of medical residents, students, and fellows by provision of Grand Rounds presentations, noon lecture series presentation, etc., with an emphasis on development of the skills required to apply medical knowledge selectively based on individual cases and circumstances. Promote and facilitate research amongst both Housestaff and Faculty. Participate in national VHA conference calls and audio conferences on issues related to the Gastroenterology Section, the Facility, and any new programs or initiatives affecting the two entities. Participate in any conferences, calls, or meetings related to patient outcomes, customer service, service improvement, or the like, as assigned by supervisory staff. Represent the Section or the Service by serving on committees or task forces, as well as with service to local, state, or national professional service organizations, both inside and outside of the VA (as applicable and assigned). Each Gastroenterologist is required to carry a pager, responding telephonically or otherwise as appropriate during hours approved in concurrence with the Chief, Gastroenterology and the Chief, Medical Service (or designee).
