The Acute Mental Health Unit (AMHU) Program Manager, COMPASS Center, is within the Mental Health Service Line and provides patient-centered treatment planning, nursing, and psychiatric care, as well as strengths-based and recovery-oriented treatment for Veterans in acute crisis. These services include: 1) process groups, psycho-educational classes, recreational activities, pharmaceutical education, evidence-based groups, peer led groups, transitional groups, and groups involving patient's family members; and, 2) interdisciplinary and patient-centered discharge planning with options for seamless transitions to residential substance abuse treatment programs, vocational services, housing programs, long-term care facilities, or to a wide range of outpatient services and programs. The primary focus of the Inpatient Mental Health Position is to facilitate the provision of high quality of inpatient treatment, transitions of care, external and internal relations, patient and staff satisfaction, and ensuring services are delivered based on the principles of patient-centered, recovery-oriented care. Their scope, is to elevate treatment for inpatient Veterans through streamlining services with external agencies, providing ongoing evaluation of the quality of care delivered on the unit and offered post-discharge, and to change and enhance services in conjunction with key leaders at this facility. This position will also directly supervise the Acute Mental Health Social Workers. Duties include but are not limited to: A. The Supervisory Social Worker Functions as the Inpatient Mental Health Unit's Liaison: The Position works with other programs throughout the facility to enhance service options and streamline care and aftercare. They must be able to demonstrate they are well educated on the programs and services at the facility and that they are good at working with others for the purpose of enhancing relationships and building rapport among professional staff. The position will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing relationships with other programs, departments, and stakeholders. This includes enhancing relations with both line and supervisory staff. They will respectfully advocate for the needs of Veterans on the unit at key meetings held in-house with these other programs. To the extent necessary for program enhancement, the programs they could become involved with includes, but may not be limited to: the general outpatient mental health teams, Addiction Recovery Service (ARS), Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP), the PTSD team, the suicide prevention team, the Psychosocial Recovery and Rehabilitation program, Primary Care, the Homeless Veterans Program, the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) team, tele-health and tele-mental health services, and others. B. The Position has oversight of programming to include Clinical Responsibilities and Documentation: The Position provides consultation, training, guidance, and expertise to all staff regarding recovery-oriented, patient-centered treatment of Veterans. The position correlates training with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager, as well as with the Local Recovery Position. Inherent in this function is the need to conduct research on the most up-to-date information on recovery-oriented and evidenced-based treatment for patients in an acute psychiatric setting and who are newly discharged from that setting. The Position will work with other unit staff and patients to ascertain Veterans treatment needs and the quality of the programs and services delivered during their admission. This information will be used to impact program enhancement and development. This could include obtaining consultation and guidance from discharged Veterans and Peer Support Specialists. C. The Position has supervisory control The Position will directly supervise COMPASS Center's social workers. The Position's own case load will be adjusted related to other unit duties.
