The Opportunity Atlantic Health in has partnered with AMN Leadership Solutions to conduct a national search for a Regional Chief Medical Officer for two hospitals in its Western Region – Newton Medical Center and Hackettstown Medical Center. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead Medical Staffs and advance clinical integration between the two hospitals and Atlantic Health, one of New Jersey’s leading and largest integrated health systems.
The Organization Atlantic Health, a $2.6B, 7-hospital integrated network has been recognized on 2020-2021 US News and World Report, and Newsweek, and voted among the Top 100 Places to Work by Forbes.
Newton Medical Center joined Atlantic Health in 2010 and is a 148-bed, acute care hospital providing a full scope of services including emergency care, medical-surgical care, critical care, obstetrics, and behavioral health. In recent years, the hospital has received repeated 5-star ratings from Healthgrades. NMC received an “A” hospital safety grade from Leapfrog in Spring 2020, and achieved full re-accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization in 2020. Newton Medical Center also recently achieved the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Pathway to Excellence designation, and in partnership with Hackettstown Medical Center is pursuing Magnet designation, with anticipated application in Summer of 2022.
Hackettstown Medical Center joined Atlantic Health System in 2016. HMC is a 111-bed acute care hospital providing a wide variety of high-quality outpatient and inpatient services including care for all types of illnesses and injuries in a newly renovated and enhanced Emergency Department. HMC maintains designation as a Primary Stroke Center by both the Joint Commission and the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services and is the recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®– Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus.
The Position The Chief Medical Officer of the Western Region is a key member of the senior leadership of the region and Atlantic Health. He or she performs a pivotal role in supporting and advancing physician engagement, integration, and alignment with Newton Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center and with Atlantic Health System, strengthening relationships between the organization and the medical staffs, including both employed and private community physicians. He/she is the physician leader with primary responsibility for advancing continuing improvements in clinical quality and patient safety within the organization. The Chief Medical Officer will play an integral role in advancing the clinical integration of Newton Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center and their providers with Atlantic Health System.
The Region The Atlantic Health System, Western Region is located in the New Jersey Highlands, also known as the Skylands, between the Delaware and Hudson Rivers. This region of northwestern New Jersey is located between New York City, about a 90 minute drive to the east, and 30 minutes to the Pocono Mountains to the West.
Northwestern New Jersey is predominately rural in nature - a beautiful region of forested ridges, rolling farmlands, and significant historic and scenic resources, anchored by a diverse array of small cities, towns and villages. The region offers a wide range of recreational opportunities for outdoor lovers who enjoy rigorous hikes, abundant wildlife and superb scenery. The nearby Delaware Water Gap, one of New Jersey’s most impressive natural features, marks the entrance to the largest national recreation area in the eastern United States. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DEWA) surrounds much of Worthington State Park and extends 70,000 acres into Sussex County and across the river in Pennsylvania.
