The Outpatient Nurse Manger (NM) of Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders (SCl/D) is a key member of SCI/D Management. The Outpatient NM of SCI/D has direct supervisory responsibility for nursing personnel within the spinal cord injury and disorders (SCI/D), Rocky Mountain Region (RMRVAMC) Outpatient Clinics and the SCI/D Home Care Program as assigned. The NM of SCI/D demonstrates professional nursing practice characterized by leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes, and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level, providing: efficient delivery of rehabilitation; sustaining medical and surgical care; patient and family education; psychological, social, and vocational care; research; education; and professional training in the continuum of care for persons with SCI/D. The NM of SCI/D promotes organizational effectiveness through an understanding of and application of organizational relationship models, principles, and strategies; uses an analytical framework such as the nursing process to create an environment that facilitates delivery of care; implements standards of professional practice, accrediting bodies and applicable regulations; exercises the skills, knowledge, ability and motivation to foster decision-making, participation, flexibility, accountability, and responsibility in staff managed; exercises the skills and knowledge to implement and evaluate standards of care and practice; assures that staff competencies are communicated and assessed; assures that patient health education is provided throughout the patient care experience; provides leadership in addressing ethical issues that impact patients and staff; implements healthcare evaluation and outcome measures; applies fiscal principles; develops effective business plans; creates and maintains a safe workplace for patients and staff; promotes the timely and accurate completion of performance appraisals and proficiencies; contributes to the professional growth and development of staff; develops staff for career progression; collaborates with other departments and disciplines to ensure the identification, measurement, and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives specific to the patient care services provided. Other duties are (but not limited to): Demonstrates competency in organizational management skills, written and verbal communication skills, data/operations analysis and strategic planning skills, and creation/visionary skills. Advocates for all Veteran patient populations as well as SCI/D specific populations as outlined by SCI/D VHA Handbooks and Directives. Promotes and embodies the VA Mission, Core Values, Strategic Goals and Objectives. Additionally, the Outpatient: Nurse Manager of SCI/D upholds the Mission of the Spinal Cord Injuries and Disorders program in VA: To support and maintain the health, independence, quality of life, and productivity of Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders throughout their lives. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 4:00pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
