The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) is currently recruiting one full-time Physician - Anesthesiologist to serve as a Staff Anesthesiologist in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and general operating rooms. The anesthesiologist should have additional adult Intensive Care Unit experience, including fellowship training. VAPSHCS has a closed ICU model that is run by both surgical and anesthesiology-trained intensivists. The staff Anesthesiologist is directly accountable to the Chief of the Anesthesia Service Line and will provide the highest level of care throughout the medical center in compliance with VA and VHA Directives and the Joint Commission accreditation standards. The VAPSHCS Surgical ICU is a multi-specialty environment that includes an open-heart surgery program. The anesthesiologist duties include, but are not limited to: Attending in the ICU eight (8) to ten (10) weeks per year Provide a variety of services including, pre-operative assessment, intra-operative care utilizing MAC, regional and general anesthetic techniques on ASA Class 1 through 5 patients and post-operative care, including ventilator management within recovery areas and the ICU. Provide anesthesia-related, direct patient care in multiple facility locations, including OR, ICU, in-patient wards, ED and participates in call coverage. Supervise CRNAs and will have the opportunity to teach rotating medical students, residents and fellows. The Staff Anesthesiologist may also be involved in program planning, objectives, policies and standards essential to delivery of quality anesthetic care. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm, with call coverage Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Incentives: Not authorized PCS Relocation: Not authorized Benefits: Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus (up to an additional 7.5% of their salary (not to exceed $15k), regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: (Full-time physicians) Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
