| The Nurse Educator develops a high level of clinical practice, leadership, and skills to improve/coordinate patient care for the adult Veteran population. The practice of each Nurse Educator is based on knowledge, experience, and research, expected to impact patient outcomes in the assigned program(s) and/or clinical areas. The Nurse Educator is accountable for directing, coordinating, and participating in the delivery of educational and clinical programs for nursing personnel. The Nurse Educator maintains a collaborative working relationship with all levels of nursing staff. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Managers, the Nurse Educator will assess the learning needs of the staff in the facility and/or their assigned clinical area(s), then plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs designed to develop and improve the clinical and administrative skills of nursing staff throughout the organization. The Nurse Educator facilitates staff participation in projects and educational programs which promote their own development, and the improvement of patient care delivery. He/she helps to identify and resolve problems of a clinical practice nature, using current evidence- based research and resources to resolve the issue in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Working with the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager and his/her peers, the Nurse Educator will identify annual competencies, as well as the methods to verify these competencies. The Nurse Educator reviews and develops formal and just-in-time educational offerings to meet staff learning needs. The Nurse Educator works collaboratively with his/her fellow nurse educators, clinical nurse specialist, Associate Chief Nurses, Nurse Managers, Assistant Nurse Managers, and Nursing Supervisors on clinical and/or education related issues. Each Nurse Educator serves as a clinical content expert and resource to nursing staff in their area(s) of assignment. He/she serves as an adjunct member of the leadership team in the area(s) assigned and as such, must demonstrate excellent educational, communication and team building skills. They must model professional behavior toward colleagues, para-professionals and all team members, in all areas, at all times. The Nurse Educator is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Medical Center, the VISN, and national mission and recognized standards including those of regulatory bodies. The Nurse Educator provides leadership in the clinical areas while encouraging and fostering participation and involvement in educational programs that will advance the knowledge and skills, as well as professional development, of the nursing staff. He/she possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This broad-based clinical knowledge enables the Nurse Educator to effectively serve as a clinical mentor, coach, and preceptor for clinical and administrative staff, consulting and collaborating in patient care, educational processes, and research. Work Schedule: Day shift with occasional off-shift tours - Reassignment to another clinical area is possible to include change in tour, off tour rotation and weekend/holiday rotation during reassignment to meet the facility needs.
