RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION INCENTIVE MAY BE AUTHORIZED for these positions. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Major duties and responsibilities include: The CBOC psychiatrist provides psychiatric care services for the Mental Health Care Line (MHCL) at the Department of Veterans Affairs Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, (VA TVHS). They provide comprehensive clinical services to Veterans and their families within the MHCL. They perform general psychiatric assessment and treatment in a multi-disciplinary setting composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, nurse practitioners, psychopharmacologists, and primary ambulatory care services. They will work closely with their colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art mental health care. The psychiatrist is a key participant in the implementation of the principles of Advanced Clinic Access in mental health.Routine work is performed with minimum supervision. Incumbent is required to perform duties on his/her own initiative. As a psychiatrist within the MHCL, you will operate in a manner promoting success in all applicable performance measures and ensuring compliance with all applicable accreditation standards.He/she shall work in harmony with other members of the professional and technical staff; tact and courtesy are mandatory when interacting with patients and staff in a professional manner at all times.Major duties and responsibilities include: Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and post deployment combat Veterans, who are mentally ill and have psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders. Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education. Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care. The Psychiatrist may serve as a mental health team leader with responsibilities for coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care. Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions. May perform other directly related duties as assigned. Areas which the psychiatrist is assigned and has clinical privileges to practice may include depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse, and other psychiatric disorders in an outpatient clinical setting.
